hi there!
For today’s client spotlight feature, I’m excited to share a project I worked on with Alyssa Lovdahl from Lovdahl Salon & Studio in beautiful Duluth, Minnesota.
Naturally, I met Alyssa behind the chair, or should I say in the chair, while she worked as an independent stylist at another salon under her previous brand name, Lov Your Hair Dahl. Not long after we met, Alyssa reached out to tell me about the opening of her new salon, Lovdahl Salon & Studio!
She had the name, space, and clients ready to go! The only problem? She wasn’t sure how to put her brand story into words. So, when she asked me if I would help develop the story behind Lovdahl Salon & Studio, I was beyond excited to put pen to paper.
A few words about the project details…
For this project, I focused heavily on helping Alyssa develop her salon’s brand story so that she could set herself apart from other salons in the area, connect with her existing and new clients, and ultimately grow her new salon business.
But before I could even begin to craft a brand story for Alyssa’s salon, I had to ground myself in market research. This meant taking the time to research the beauty salon industry as a whole, better understand Alyssa’s target audience, and get a sense of how other salons in the area are positioning themselves.
While I uncovered many great insights during the project’s research and discovery phase, two things stood out to me the most. The first was discovering just how much women rely on salons for self-care and community. And the second was how much this insight aligned with Alyssa’s vision for creating a salon that was truly a destination for clients to come get pampered, get together for local events, and further establish support for the community by purchasing unique goods from local artists in the area.
From that point on, it was clear that I would position Lovdahl Salon & Studio as a boutique salon rooted in love for its clients, creating a sustainable community, and empowering women to show themselves some lov(e). And with a name like Lovdahl Salon & Studio, the concept of self-love couldn’t have felt more on brand.
A few words about the results…
Once I helped Alyssa hone in her brand story, she could freely communicate her story across multiple channels like her website, social media, even on fun parking signs outside her salon that say, “Park here for some self-love.”
Best of all, Alyssa’s clients connected with her exceptional service offering and the new brand story so well that Alyssa had to stop taking on new clients just one year after the salon debut. I don’t know about you, but I’d say that being completely booked up is a great business problem to have.
